In order to investigate the effect of application of different levels of sulfur with planting density on yield and yield components of rice of local Tarom cultivar (Tarome mahali), a split plot experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with 12 treatments and 4 replications in 2010 in Babol. Experimental factors included sulfur at 4 levels (0, 50, 100 and 150 g per seedling box) as the main factor and 3 planting arrangements (30 × 13, 30 × 15 and 30 × 17 cm2) as a secondary factor. Traits measured included plant height, 1000-grain weight, number of leaves, number of tillers, cluster length, number of filled-empty seeds, leaf area index, seed yield. The results showed that the application of sulfur increased the number of full grains in the cluster and also the interaction effects of sulfur application and planting density increased the weight of 1000 grains compared to the control. The results of mean comparison showed that planting density treatment (17× 30 cm2), 100 g of sulfur caused 96.65% increase in 1000-seed weight compared to planting density treatment (17× 30 cm2), 50 g of sulfur 20.34 g. Also, the maximum and minimum numbers of tillers in the mound were obtained from the combined treatment of planting density (17× 30 cm2), 150 g of sulfur 19.19 and planting density (15× 30 cm2), 150 g of sulfur, respectively.
